Those were the days, a whole ocean full of big fish, little if any commercial pressure and, only a few, rich anglers prepared for all the time/expense envolved in the hunt for the ultimate prize. Bit different now, much easier to travel, but few fish, commercial pressure everywhere, shame ,but thats now.

Yeah agree-I can recall when my late father worked the gill-net boats out of Friday Harbour Island in the San Juans, Puget Sound, Washington in the late 1940s and the seemingly fish-full waters of the Pacific and the salmon runs. By the 1950s the numbers of salmon were way down and commercial netting by gill-nets was no longer economical and a way of life for islanders was gone forever. Oh the occasional salmon can still be caught by trolling in the waters around the island, but it,s hard going compared to what it was like only sixty years ago.
