Default CONDIT DAM BEING BREACHED AT ABOUT NOON TODAY - our time.

Here's the live link to the explosion: http://www.pacificorp.com/es/hydro/cdb.html If needed, click on the Condit Dam Breach on the left side of the page.

99 years to get rid of the damned dam. Worth the wait, 33 miles of river... Imagine the billions of creatures that failed to exist over the last century thanks to this damned dam. There is much to do.

This is nothing but good news for the Pacific NW of the US.

And more are on the 'chopping block' Richard. My home river, the Rogue in SW Oregon, has only one left (and it's not going anywhere**) at RM 157. Save for one other on the top end of the Applegate there isn't another dam on the main river or any of the tribs.

For those who couldn't/didn't see the breaching:

The neat part was they (Pacific Corp?) had several live cameras set up from the dam to the river mouth (3'ish miles below). So you not only got to watch 700 pounds of explosives go 'BOOM,' but you got to watch everything that happened after that.

Great news.
If only they could have used Lancasters and a bouncing bomb or two.

Ya te tat ta ta ta, tar tar tar

I wonder if we could do the same to the Manchester Ship Canal and the Irwell.

Thumbs up Re: CONDIT DAM BEING BREACHED AT ABOUT NOON TODAY - our time.

Some additional footage/views from the Orvis Blog site. The first, you've seen but the second and what follows up is an excellent view of the build up to breaching the dam. After the second clip there's additional footage taken from the other camera that were placed down river.

A update for those interested....

I was camping with the family up in the area last weekend and drove past the White Salmon river at the mouth where it joins the Columbia. The dam would have been a few miles upstream. The mouth of the river was always very pretty, a deep green color. Obviously not natural but nice to look at none the less. Probably at least 30-40 feet deep under the bridge....

Those are deer in the background, out in the middle of the river. The water there would have been at least 20' deep.

Hopefully all this sediment clears out quickly and the river gets back into shape as soon as possible. Ugly to look at now, but for the best in the long run.
