Default Was your licence checked this year?

Another season over and yet again I ain't seen hide nor hair of an Environment Agency bailiff.

It's over twenty years since I've been asked to produce my licence and while I'm willing to believe bailiffs really do exist there's not a lot of evidence to support the theory.

It would be interesting to know how many forum members - particularly river fishers - have been asked to produce their licences this season.

I've only ever been asked for my fishing licence once, in over 50 years! That was back in the late 70's, by a Yorkshire Water Authority bailiff.

I get asked about twice a year, sometimes more. I mainly fish commercial stillwaters though, which are probably their prime target (and ironically, probably get the least benefit)

Maybe they're keener around your neck of the woods. I had a season ticket for Ladybower for ten years, during the 90's, and was never asked. Although I think it may still have belonged to Severn Trent Water Authority in those days.

Can't remember ever being asked for the EA license, club ones yes, very occasionally, but I know a few who have been asked to produce it.

In 44 years ..... twice. Both times on the Teifi and one of which led to an interesting conversation.

Me: Wow! This is the first time I've had my rod licence checked!
Bailiff: I saw your car in the gateway and didn't recognise it and then saw you down here in the field. If you'd been in the next field I wouldn't have bothered.
Me: Why?
Bailiff: Too far to walk just to check one licence - we've got targets and it's easier to meet your target walking around a small stillwater, you can check a load in a short time.
Me: So there's no attempt to focus on regulating fishing for migratory fish whose numbers might be under threat?
Bailiff: Nah, it's just numbers. Tightlines!

And off he trotted.

Wait for the first day in April next season when you have forgotten to get a license and just pop out because "It'll be ok I'll risk it as I havent seen a bailiff in 30 years" and see what happens!!!!!! LOL
