Hi Chops

Word on the bank is that it is a little disappointing but depends what you are looking for.

The nearest better water is Roddlesworth.

Upper Roddlesworth Reservoir @ go-fish.co.uk

Never heard of Kingfisher ...... Search the forum for reports on Upper Roddlesworth. I have not fished it this year but always had a "good do" there in previous years.

There is also Curly's ( I think that's the name ) heard good things about !!

Fairly recently I think that Scratch said that Kingfisher was closed. I think two guys took it over with the intention of making a carp lake and a trout lake. It must have folded. If you get no further information, you could ask Scratch.

Curleys is a small reservoir type stillwater, with casting platforms, fishable from 3 sides. It is quite deep for it's size. A fairly recent thread found the fish to be apparently suffering from high water temps - it was not unique in that. I fished it a couple of times last winter. It had a small tackle shop and a cafe. The fish I caught were around the 1+1/2 lb mark.
It reminded me a bit of Pennine, although the staff were perfectly pleasant.

If you are prepared to travel for 3/4hr or so, these are all possibilites
Westlow Mere, Congleton
Mere Beck, Southport
Fylde Fishery, Nr Preston
Barnsfold Waters, Goosnargh, Preston
Meadow Fishery, Mickle Trafford, Chester.

went to oak royal couple of sats ago, me and my mate had two each, smallish water but not very deep and weed is a problem.
kingfisher is closed as the other post says, and curleys is just going through a change of ownership, probably for the better as mike roden is a pro casting instructor and he should know how to run a fishery
i to are looking for a stillwater over winter and prob of the few mentioned i wil be trying fylde in the next few days, hopefully if the weather holds up,as it can get breezy in the blackpool area
hope this helps.

Hi Chops,
I'm not far from you (Golborne), as Bill says further up there's quite a few. I went Oak Royal very early on in season thinking it was the closest -but found though it's okay, isn't the best. From me Barnsfold is 45/50 mins and there's no comparison between the two. Oak Royal is 35/40 mins.

Hi Chops-a few months ago fished Oak Royal with Bill, but as Bill says it,s shallow and does have weed/algae problems, Meadow Fishery near Chester I fished with Jamie(beerlover) once, but doubt I,ll fish it again. Though it has three lakes and has a well-stocked tackle shop like Oak Royal they are shallow and the largest lake is shallowest. When I was there there was not only a problem with weed, but lethargic fish from hot water temps, but that should not be a problem now. There is also Marton Heath Trout Pools, but that has coarse fish, too and is rather hit-and-miss and blanking is not difficult there. Barnsfold though not too large is deep and the fish fight hard and are in excellent condition-only problem there is because of its high altitude it it rarely ever calm so one had better be a good caster if you have to cast into the wind even though fish are taken in the margins early and late in the day.

Chops

If you go to Barnsfold,(I'm assuming that you've not been before) don't forget to take change as it's an honesty box system.
There's a catch returns book there which will give you some idea on what's working.
It can get windy there so be prepared to wrap up.
