Default Could this be small stream heaven?

I have just returned from a sunny week on mainland Spain, during which I managed a trip into the local mountains where I stumbled onto this river. The waters tumbled clear through the tree lined valley over the sand covered river bed.

Each mini-pool along the shallow river was filled with fish - not trout I am afraid, but there were literally living carpets of what I believe to be Barbel swimming about......

There was not another angler in sight, and with my rods left back in Blighty I was left only wondering as to whether they could be tempted to a fly.

Have already booked my flights to return early next year.....

Given the reluctance of barbel to get their noses out of the silt sinking nymphs are recommended. A small box of weighted
goldheads will suffice, in olive, black, brown, and goldribbed hare's ear varieties on de-barbed hooks. This is not match the
hatch fishing, but rather an attempt to offer something approximate to the assorted bugs that barbel gorge on.
