Default Fishing Near Carlisle

Going to Carlisle next week, taking the kids too.

Does anyone know of a good stillwater to take a 12 year old and possibly a 6 year old for a day.

Thanks in advance

New mills trout farm in brampton will be ok for kids there is a kiddy pond there or if you want a bit more of a challenge try naworth which is just behind new mills

go to aldernuek in dumfries probably the best stillwater in southern scotland and only half an hours drive from carlisle, and willie and wilma will look after you.
i travelled up a few weeks ago and can`t wait to return, and the fishing is superb.

Would recommend Langley Dam

Langley Dam Fly Fishery - fly fishing in Northumberland, North East England

Hi fogmun, i live in the mighty carlisle and mostly go fishing at bessy beck, just over half an hour if you get the foot down. i also fish at naworth, good for the kids as they can fish the worm. it also holds fish up to 20lb+.
check out their catch reports. last time i went it was only a tenner all day catch and release. 10 mins from carlisle aswell.
im really keen to try alderneuk. def making it my next outing as ive also heard very good reports.
other than that if your not from cumbria then you might want to make the most of the lake district whilst your up here, maybe watendlath or esthwaite??
Anyway enjoy your time in the great border city!!!

Thanks all

Cumbrianff, I grew up in Penrith so know the are a really well, left a long time ago and I really want somewhere that will be fairly easy for the kids (best way to keep them interested, toss up between Alderneuk and New Mills at the moment.

Alderneuk would get my vote. Bessybeck was full of weed a month back. Not much fun fishing when it's like that.

Did you go to Bessy Beck Colin? I thought you went to Blencarn, BB is usually OK.

We fished both places. Lovely locations & could be great places to fish, if it weren't for the blanket covering of weed. We will definitely be back down to fish the Eden next season, all being well.
