Smile Great catch with my own super spoonfly: the Corvina Catcher

Hello anglers from UK

Fisrt I want to thank you for accept me to be part of this great Forum, and also, have the chance to learn from you and show you what happen down here, in Peru-Southamerica.

Look at this beautiful 22lb "Corvina" (known in the US as "weakfish").
I catched it in Ica's shores, in the middle of the dessert zone of Peru's central coast.
That day, was a wonderful cold day, the sea-shore had difficult conditions, but I was very lucky.

If someone has the chance to come to this part of the world looking for a hard and challenging fishing trip, Ica-Peru is the right place to do it. Ica is located about 220 miles southbound from Lima (Peru's capital city). Departing from Lima, first you have to drive about 220 miles towards south through the Panamerican highway. Then, you have to turn to the west, and drive about 50-55 miles through an offroad route, plenty with high mountains. Through the road, you will find an awesome landscape: sand, rocks, strong desert wind, and if you stop, in some places, you will find lot of ocean fossils far away from the ocean.

For this capture, I used a Shimano 8' MA surf rod (not a 9' this time), a Fin-nor reel (it has an extraordinary dragging), a 20lb Power-pro line (to make my fishing more challenging), and finally, my extraordinary spoonfly "Corvina Catcher" (you can watch in my youtube video "Pulpito Jig Series #3", how to make the Corvina Catcher).

On the other hand, I will be very happy to receive your comments and answer any question from your side.

Here is a picture of myself and the 22lb Corvina:

Love the vice and admire your skills.
I do not think my rods would be able to cast 2oz of steel.

Hello Hillloch

Thank you for your comments. Definitively to cast a 2oz spoonfly, you need another kind of rod.

Take a look to my video #7 (Pulpito jig Series # 7 : Kleine Garnele). You can find it in Youtube. This little shrimp is very useful when I'm using my fly rod. I have caught different species from both as salt & freshwater fishes.

Here is the fly:

Hello Flytier!!!

Thanks for your words, as I said before, I am very happy to have the chance to visit and be part of this extraordinary Forum.
It gives me the opportunity to learn a lot from people who practice same/different fishing styles.

Warm regards from Perú, Jose Antonio
