Default Which line??

It's my dads birthday soon and I've decided I'm going to buy him a good quality floating line. He's got a lovely Orvis reel but it's loaded with cheap line that's pretty rubbish tbh. I'm thinking of getting him a rio gold line, but then I think is it really worth £55?? Can anyone suggest a few good lines? Or persuade me that the rio line is infact worth £55 and my old
man will be delighted when he uses it

The Rio Is a good line as is the Cortland 444-333 range, and the SA professional and General purpose. But then so is the Bario and Pirates lines at great prices.

The Rio Gold line is a lovely thing to own and use, and your dad will be delighted with it, no question, as I am with mine. The point is, though, will he be three times - three hundred percent - happier than he would be with a Barrio or Pitsford Pirate line ? Look at the prices and do the maths.

If you shop around you can find Rio Golds cheaper than £55.

It's your call in the end. My two penny worth is that I hope to catch good fish with my Rio Gold for some time to come, but I am unlikely to be replacing it with another high end line when the time comes; the law of diminishing returns definitely applies to fishing tackle.

I have just bought a Rio Gold line and would recommend it 100% , the loop in the end is nice and slim , no need for braided loop attachment . I know cheaper lines are fine, but for a present to match an Orvis rod ,treat him !

Thanks for all the feedback from everyone

Think i've been persuaded that i'm not just paying for a brand name.

I'm after a 7 weight. How much do you guys sell them for?

Thanks a lot
