hi folks,
ive just bought some rio tapered leaders however when i took them out of the packet i noticed theres loops on both ends. how dow i attach it to my fly line? my fly line has a braided loop at the top, do i need to take this off and tie the fly line to the loop on the tapered leader?
apologies as im sure this has been asked many times
also how much fluoro should i connect to the tapered leader?

Here's the loop to loop connection.

As to how much fluoro you add to the tapered leader, I'm afraid the answer is "as much as you need"

You need to tell us what length and diameter (or x rating eg. 2x) your Rio leader is and what you are trying to achieve - e.g. fishing dry flies on a small stream, or lures on a reservoir etc etc.

Also rod length and line rating (e.g. 6wt) may have a bearing.

With respect Lavo85 you sound like a beginner to fly fishing so personally i wouldn't worry about expensive tapered leaders such as Rio's and Fluoro.Get yourself some of these at 9ft,use a single fly until you're more experienced then think about adding tippets and droppers.

********13 tapered leaders £10 pick and mix style************

What kind of fishing are you doing?

For the most part, tapered leaders are not entirely necessary, I would personally only use them if fishing a single dry and believe me that aint often.

If you are a beginner as has been suggested, they are pretty good at helping your fly turnover and give better presentation, however if you are fishing stillwaters, a straight through leader is the more popular and much cheaper option.

If you insist on tapered leaders, I agree, don't worry about a fluoro tippet, just use mono or copoly, again cheaper and if in fact you were using TLs to fish a single dry, I certainly wouldn't use fluoro as a tippet as it sinks too fast, dragging down your dry.
