Default Wet Wet Wet

OK! Having just spent 8 hours on a boat in a lake and getting rained on from start to finish I can seriously confirm that some of the top selling waterproof garments for fly fishing are not waterproof at all. So my question is this,

Who can recommend a genuinly waterproof jacket and trouser set, that, does not require a remortgage? and when I say waterproof, I mean go and stand in a swimming pool for 8 hours and not come out damp!

Neoprene Waders keep water out. Is there a neopreme jacket or have I just stumbled upon a huge killer market?

Advice from seasoned and straight talking anglers greatly appreciated.

Got soaked a while back this year too and have been contemplating what to do.

Some years agoe I bought a flotation suit, one peice, green job, and used it for sea fishing was great.
Maybe some of the coarse fishing one peice suits would be good?

The other thing I have been looking at and considering is a rain poncho, retail at less than £20 quid and may just do the job as an extra layer.

Go old school rubberized nylon or PVC coated cotton gear. Nothing is more waterproof and it solves the wet ass problem when sitting on boat seats with breathables.

There are few advantages, if any, to wearing breathables for boat fishing. And the downside is as you've found out, most breathables can't match the old gear for being all-day waterproof.

Anyone remember the yellow NCB Oil Skins? They were proper waterproofs, as a childhood spent in the winter snow would prove, never had a wet 4rse

Bang on grousey.............My waterproofs really are. 100%, my jackets cost £8 each my overtrousers cost £6 each. granted I wouldn't want to walk too far in them because I'd sweat a lot but for sitting in a boat or stood standing they are fine. At those prices if I get a tear I get another pair. Here's a picture of me keeping dry on Brenig.................

I don't think there is such a thing as a neopreme jacket only a wet suit. Anyway you sweat like a pig and find you were wet through from inside the jacket not outside. It's importent that the body can breather and get rid of the sweat

A Gortex coat for hill walking from the likes of Berghaus - fraction of the price because the word "salmon" or "wading" is not included.

Check out some of the country clothes retailers.
