Default Where has the river lathkill gone

We were out green laning last sunday and crossed the river Lathkill at Over Hadden.
The river bed was bone dry infact it was grassed over.
The last time we drove through it there was a foot or more of water to splash through.
and then up the Byway and through the woods and across the field to Meadow Place Grange before returning to tarmac again.
then it was onto the next Byways.

Is the river Lathkill known for drying up? as it looks as though it had been dry for some time.

The River Lathkill is a disappearing river, when in summer or after long spells of dry weather the river follows an underground route and appears from a series of swallet holes downstream.

BBC News - Wildlife threatened by drying out of River Dore

Not the only place this is happening; I was out doing river maintenance on our local this morning and the level is painfully low.

BBC1 'Countryfile' is covering this very subject now. Simon Ward's EA team was shown catching up trout from the drying pools to transfer downstream. And Richard Ward - he looked very familiar - spoke well on the angling and the reddest trouts in all of England.

Good programme, will be repeated Thursday night, Fri really, at 00:55 hrs. I hope the rver fills up soon so these unique trout can again spawn.
