Default middleton

Having read the fishing page in todays Daily Record where the article mentions some of the thoughts of Stan Headly about anglers killing too many fish,i am wondering what Stan or others think of this.Middleton fishery which is a fly only water has had a few bait comps recently. The winner of the first comp killed 57 fish !The second comp was won with 42 fish killed.Another is planned for this Sunday.Other anglers had bags in the 20s and 30s during both these comps.I know of one guy that stopped fishing during the first comp and has said he would never fish a bait comp again .A fishing buddy of mine has sent a letter to Trout Fisherman in disgust at the amount of fish being killed.Okay i know this was a bait comp but it happened on Troutmaster water that is normally fly only.As the letter was sent in two months ago we are assuming it is not going to be published,is this because it shows a Troutmaster water in bad light? We would like to hear what forum members think of this.Would you be pleased if this happened on a water you fished?

It's still a stock pond, so it dosen't rile me the way the competitions on Harray - a 100% wild water - do, where they pull out 1000+ on 2 competitions.

And I'm in the cultural heartland of Inverclyde too!

The management should have suspended c+r at times then and made anglers take a fish or two.I know of some waters that have limited c+r at times.Still no excuse for slaughtering fish just for the sake of getting them out of the water. Also why were the numerous fly competions fished with a bag limit? If they wanted fish out that makes no sense.Fished a lot of the comps up there and never seen anyone get 20 never mind 57.

Is this a bit like the competitions on the Usk where after the weigh-in huge bags of dace where buried in holes in the ground behind each angler's swim? Or is that different?!

Hi there i am the Manager of Middleton Trout Fishery in Largs you obviously dont know the fishery and hows its run so you cannot comment on how my competitions are run. Myself and the owner have run this fishery for 2 and a half years its one of the best stocked and busiest small waters in this area. Email the fishery if you have any complaints on how the fishery is being run.
