Default Grafham boat etiquette

I took this on Thursday, and I think it beggars belief.Sure, we've been hammering them close in, but to do so requires a bit of stealth.I remain seated, even when casting, and take care with my presentation. So the boaters get a little jealous, and think they can anchor, or even go aground, on the dam wall.Maybe they didn't realise the fish may see a 16ft boat, or hear it as it rolls back and to on the concreteWhen these boats left the algae was scoured from the concrete, so you can guess what vibration that sent out.I only saw one catch a fish, but it effectively pushed the fish out for the rest of the day, and i was 100m away.
Even during the practice days for the International we had boats motoring right up to us, they were so keen to catch. One boat even told us the bank should be closed for the competition!
I fish both bank and boat, and when in a boat take pains to respect the bank fisher- after all there's plenty of water to go at.I have reported the worse offenders, but never hear the outcome. I believe they should issue warnings, and in the case of International competitors, suspend them from the match.

To all intents and purpose breaking rule:

46. Landing of boats at any point other than the pontoon is prohibited
except in an emergency.

Also you would only have had to walk within 50 metres of them for them to breaking rule:

48. Prohibited areas for boat fishing:-
• within 50 metres of a bank angler,

also damn silly, if they wanted to fish from the bank why did they hire a boat?

Send the picture to fishing@anglianwater.co.uk and see if you get a response.

I fished a pairs match there on Thursday and we stayed well away from the bank anglers even though they were catching, however we had boats go past us to get closer to the bank?

I know the individuals in question weren't from our group but this happened on a couple of occasions and in the end I saw one bank angler pack up. To me this is disrespectful.

I'm new to this game (fourth outling on this day) but have carp fished to a high level for many years and I have to say this wouldn't happen on my syndicate and I didn't expect it trout fishing?

Maybe the temptation of the trout feeding close in on the shrimps was too much for some, however it doesn't excuse the behaviour?

Slightly aside from this I fished Hanningfield my local water yesterday and if you think thats bad you want to see the bahaviour of some of the anglers (if you can call them that?) on there now any method is allowed. It's like a free for all.

The boat we used was covered on mud from the worms used previously, there was lead (I mean lead too) shot in there on bits of line, a broken float and worst of all a tissue which I didn't examine too closely with what can only be described as **** on it!

A soon as you hook a fish they close in on you with spinners and worms.

They tried to push in the que to get boats.

I understand alot of fly fisherman have left the waters of Hanningfled and I can se why, I just hope the management there have the guts to one day see this and return it to fly only?

The bloke you see getting out of the boat is doing so to place the anchor. Two other boats just threw it out! As you say, why hire a boat to fish from the bank? Even stranger, why ground your boat on the dam, then cast as far as you can? Given that it was near flat calm that day it would have been easy to stay 20m offshore and cast right onto the bank without disturbing the fish.Alternatively they could easily find fish shrimping on the natural bank, with not a bank angler in sight, but a lot of the boat fisherman are just sheep, and spend the day following each other around.
I will send the image to AW, and await comment. Meantime I'll confine my complaints to the warden when boats come near me.This lot were the other side of the tower to me, but effectively ruined that stretch of the bank for the day.

Quite interestingly , i watched one boat on friday motor under the walkway to the tower, and then muscle in having seen another boat catch fish, the other boat then could not get back in where the fish were, now the other side of the coin. A bank angler then left all his gear on the other side of the tower and walked into the hotspot preventing either boat fishing. Guess its not just boat anglers then!!!!!!!!!!! Happily i was trying to catch zander way from the bank.

Brilliant photo mate!

What a bunch of knobs! Can't believe it. Do people really have to stoop this low just to catch a fish! Have some dignity and self respect.

Rant over!
