Smile magazines at it again.

I picked up a copy of Total Flyfisher today. On opening the mag & reading the editorial by Steve Cullen, it's a pleasure to see that he must be scanning our forum, for ideas. It's about competition fishing & how can we get anglers back to competition fishing. The thread on here was started weeks ago.

I write a small monthly mag for my fishing club and often get ideas from the Forum.

Bk, do you charge £3.20 for your publication! I'm not saying it's wrong, just that it would be nice to read something original.

Don't think theres much original stuff left to write, just look at the threads on here, same questions and answerers and arguments.

I see your point Colin but to duplicate ideas and thoughts and then convey it to a wider audience is a good thing, in my opinion. Believe it or not, not all anglers frequent this forum and would rather buy the mags. Some of course do both and it's inevitable that at times, you'll have that deja vu feeling.

You're just too greedy in the hunt for stimulation.

It might not work for some but it does for others such as me, a newbie to the sport?

I do however acknowldge your observations as I felt the same with carp fishing having done it for 31 years and read the same old same old! I no longer get carp magazines but I have been buying two or three of the known trout/fly fishing magazines. As a result of this as someone who knew nothing two months ago I now know a great deal more; certainly enough to get me by.

One thing I can say is this sport is addictive and if the magazines can help get more fisherman into the fly scene that has to be a good thing?

Regards

BM

it also works the other way around as well where threads are started because of what they've read in a magazine .............no difference , either way it draws attention to the magazine and, or, subject

Exactly. There was an interesting article on bolt rigs in "Rubber and Discipline" only last week.

It just goes to prove that this forum proves useful to everyone-even fly fishing magazine editors and Steve does happen to be a forum member and I havn,t seen Andrew Flintcroft, Russell Hill or the editor of FF&FT on here-or if they are they don,t acknowledge the fact as Steve has the courage to do.

Hi Guys, I wrote that as I liked the thread, read it and you'll see the praise I give to comp fishing, I also highlight the shadier elements, get it out in the open and more people will talk about it, good thing I think?
