The difference between a 8# and 9# is 30 grains over the first 30'

Don't wast your money on expensive lines for pike fishing mate...

Buy some "Mill Ends" from Mullarky's there easily good enough for pike fishing or shooting heads and cost next to nothing..

Personally i think you should be able to get away with a #8 weight line for you pike flies....just use a short leader say 4 -5ft and stiff strong leader material 16 - 18lb...at least that way you fly will turn over a little easier.

A lot will depend upon how good a caster you are.......and the best thing to do is have a go with what you've got first...

Then step up the weight of the gear...

A 9wt line will help you cast large flies and save you a lot of work when casting.

I use a 9wt but some guys go for up to 12wt lines.
I would recommend a 9 or 10wt rod and line.

I have not used these lines before but i have bought a lot of fly tying stuff from this guy and to be honest his stuff is very good and does what it says on the website so if you are looking for a heavy cheap line i would try one of these.

Why should fishing for pike make the line non- important Rob?
Surely you want one that casts well and has good quality's ! which I'm sure some mill ends will have but can you be sure!

If pike fishing is going to be your chosen sport....then ok splash out and buy a 9ft 3" #10 weight rod and some nice lines, preferably with a short pronounced front taper, to turn over the large bulky wind resistant flies..

But if you just want to experement and have a go with your reservoir kit than whats the point of wasting lots of money.

Get a mill end or two in #9 or 10 weights and cut off the front 7ft of the line, this way it'll turn almost any fly over.....

Mill Ends offer excellent value for money; Pike are not that bothered about presentation, or tackle and their more than adequate....you use short stiff leaders and the flies don't exactly land gently...

I fish for pike a fair bit; and i don't think that by using Mill ends it detracts from my angling experience.....besides when a 20lb fish is pulling the other way you tend to forget pretty quickly what your fishing with

I use a #8 and sometimes a #10 for pike, depending on the rod, which in turn depends on the size of the quarry expected.

You will be fine with your current line.
