Default Fishing in the Norfolk Broads

I am going on holiday with my family up to the Norfolk Broads next year does anyone know if there are any good fly (obviously) fishing lakes/rivers round there? I know that the broads are famous for pike but I am looking for trout mainly. Much appreciate any help

Does anyone know what flies would be good to use up there?

Thanks, James

Just back from there.

wouldnt bother with flies in that filthy soup and steer clear of Richardson's Boat hire unless you seriously inspect the craft first.

Watch out too for hidden costs. An advertised £650 boat ends up as £800 in no time at all................

Not really advisable to do a boat trip in the Summer as Autumn was still a bit crazy in terms of finding moorings.

Even the local shops say they hate Summer on the Broads.

Hope I havent dashed any dreams you had (it slightly wrecked mine) of the Broads but forewarned is forearmed. If we go again, we will do things differently and may take a cottage instead!

Bests

Thanks for the warning, a boat trip won't be a problem, we have our own boat, you say that fly fishing is not worth it? I will ask around in tackle shops when i get there (if I can find any)

Thanks, James

Hi James,

is there any particular area you'd be ideally looking at ? I've been to Norwich sort of area about 5 times past 2-3 years and have a reasonable idea of day ticket fishing both river and stillwater around that sort of area and about a hours drive radius, partly with assistance from advice given on here which was gratefully received andvery useful, but not sure if there is a particular area you're looking at or how far you can or want to travel ?

Last trip we did hire a boat for a couple of hours just to do the touristy thing - it only got scary when the wife wanted to drive it - but from that admittedly brief experience I wouldn't bother with fly fishing on the broads themselves but there is some good fishing to be had in the area on other waters.

cheers Paul B

James, the water in the Broads is very murky, not very suitable for the fly. Often a lot of debris in the water too.

Away from the Broads, I cannot comment on.

The only major shop I am aware of is Lathams. There are small outlets here and there but they all sel bait and terminal coarse tackle.

I took up my pike gear to chuck a fly but after seeing the colour of the water, I didnt bother. I was chucking a huge chartraeuse spinnerbait and you could only see it when it was about 6" from the surface!
