Hi mate been fishing it quite a bit and had varied results but I think more due the weather an water temp than anything. There is a lot of weed at minute and the fish seen to be either out really far or tucked under and in the weed. Had plenty of success with simple nymphs (hare ear, diawl bach) around the weeds and literally dropping it into the holes in the weed.

Also have had good results on the dries with fish to 5lb taking griffiths gnats and hoppers. Just remember to cast short and work way out or simply target them by sight fishing.

Bit fed up of going and hearing people bad mouthing it "no bl**dy fish" etc. there'splenty and you just need to work at them. Had 16 out 10 days ago including 3 browns.

Hope it helps.

You are still allowed to fish for Grayling on the Taff throughout the winter months

Hi All

I will be going up to Canada Lakes tomorrow to try my luck. I am fairly new to Fly fishing and have been trying a few local waters to check them out. I have been to Seven Oaks Fishery and Cwm Hedd the last 2 weekends but blanked on both. I would appreciate any help if anyone is fishing Canada Lakes tomorrow. You can't miss me, I will be the one looking very confused

Kind regards

Shane

I have had experience on Seven Oaks and found olive green to work well there.Damsel lures Montannas and gold head vibrator daddy longlegs (tied with rubber instead of fibre legs). If I remember correctly the margins are quite deep so fish your fly all the way to the bank.Use the countdown method i.e. on your 1st cast retrieve straight away ,next cast alow it to sink 5/10 seconds then retrieve and so on (this is good to use on any water).Alter your retrieve rate, slow fig8 fast fig8 slow pulls fast pulls and mixtures of them all. Then WHEN(think positive)you get a take just remember how many seconds you counted and which style and speed of retrieve you used and you should have a few more
Steve.

Thanks Steve for the advice for Seven Oaks. I fished it 2 weeks ago on the Sunday when we had the really hot weather, not a good plan but fish would be within my casting range. I fished a floating line but there was one guy using intermediate line and was catching, he even had a nice 10lb rainbow. I had an intermediate line with me but I didn't have it set up on my spare spool. I will try Canada lakes tomorrow to see if my luck changes and then fishing the Cardiff foreshore for hopefully a codling or 2.

pm me if you would like to assist a novice one day at Seven Oaks

Tight Lines

Shane

Just thought i'd post my catch result from fishing Canada lake on Saturday morning.

There was alot of weed in the lake but I managed to stalk a few fish, feeding close to the bank. I started off using small nymph patterns but the fish looked at them and then turned away. I then thought of using the suspender buzzers I had with me and result, the first cast gave me a nice rainbow around the 2lb mark, this was followed around 20 mins later with another rainbow of roughly the same size, which I could see was taking food from just under the surface.

I would have stayed longer but could only manage a 2 hour fishing session. I put a new buzzer on after the first fish as when they got wet they did not float the same on the surface and the trout were ignoring them until I changed to a new dry buzzer.
