Default Dropper problem

I am finding when I bring my tippet to hand my droppers are frequently wound around the main part of the tippet. Not knotted, or tangled, just wrapped around it.

It doesn't seep to have stopped me catching fish on the dtopper, but I feel the presentation would be better if the dropper were straight.

FWIW I tend to use very light mono (usually 2lbs Chameleon) about 5' long with a single 6" dropper on a 3 turn water knot.

Thoughts?

I find the same happens to me.. I have tried shorter droppers and various line but still get the same problem.

At the moment i am using Stroft line. I realise this is quite soft compared to some, but i have tried the 'stiffer types' and they appear to do the same..

I must admit, its worse with bushier patterns too.. I guess thats the sycamore effect, when casting, or whatever the technical term is!!

Lets see if the wise owls on the forum have any suggestions to fix this!

Try applying a tiny spot of superglue onto the dropper knot and whilst glue is still wet, using tip of your finger spread onto the first 2/3mm of the dropper. Immediately hold the dropper taught at 90 degrees from the main leader for a few seconds until the glue dries.

When dry, the glue stiffens the dropper acting as a mini boom which holds the dropper away from your main leader. This works very well for me

Doesnt the super glue make the line brittle and therefore more prone to snapping off?

Not had this problem myself and used it on various leaders.....some quite light bs. Can't say I've tried it on Stroft though, so maybe try a couple at home and test the knot strength before fishing.

If it's simply a matter of getting the dropper at 90deg to the tippet, I might go back to using a blood knot. I know it gets derided for bulk, but without significant experience of the other knots mentioned, it doesnt look as though it would be any bulkier.

I only switched to the 3TWK as I find it easier to tie. (I frequently get both tags of the blood knot pointing in the same direction )

Do a wee half hitch with the tag end below the dropper onto the main line to prop it up.

try a blood knot, it sits at a right angle to the main leader so doesn't wrap round as much. it's served me well, not the easiest to tie on the bank or boat in a wind
