Following the success of the
RWFF Juniors Day 2011, we have decided to do it again. As a sport we feel we do not do enough to attract new blood. Hopefully this event will go some way to address this situation.
We have learnt a lot of lessons from this first event and want next years Youth day to be bigger and better. The 2012 Rutland Youth Fly Fishing Day will take place on Sunday the 22 of July.
Anglian Water, have very generously let us have all 65 boats for the day, this means potentially we could introduce 130 youngsters, to the sport.
We aim to organise a day of fly fishing activities for young people aged 10 to 17, that introduces beginners to the sport and develops the skills of more experienced young anglers.
To make the day an enjoyable, friendly experience that develops the fly fishing skills and knowledge of all participants
To ensure there will be a minimal competitive element
To identify two ability groups - novice and experienced
To break even on cost, with any surplus funds going to an appropriate charity
One of the major tasks in organising the event will be having 65 boatmen on standby, we don’t think for a minute we will fill all the boats, but will have a dammed good go at it. If you would like to register your interest in helping out on the day please email
rutlandwaterflyfishers@gmail.com.
We also want to publicise the event as widely as possible and want the advertisement to specifically target youngsters aged from 10 to 17 years old. If you have skills as a graphic designer and feel you could help by producing copy to advertise the event, please PM me or email the above address.
I think most of you would agree, we all need to do something to attract more youth to our chosen sport. If you feel you can help in any way, even if it’s just tying a few extra flies, please let us know.
Thanks for your support.
