Default Siblyback thoughts, advice

As stated in another thread SW lakes trust are in the process of downgrading Siblyback form its present status of a premier water.

It seems there is conflict between the water sports on the lake and the fishing, and we poor anglers are to be pushed to the side.

There is a meeting at Roadford in Devon on 3/11/2011 to discuss any options or alternative locations.

We in Cornwall have lost a lot of good fishing to the lakes trust policies and this is just a further kick in the teeth and one that I feel should be fought hard against.

Any thoughts on how to fight this so we can have a bit of high profile backing and if we are to lose Siblyback any other venue in Cornwall that could take over its status.
Mike

Its on the 3rd of November Mate, But we need to keep a decent fishery in Cornwall.
Even if it means taking a leaf out of the boys up at Kennicks book and run one ourselves.

Sorry to but in but can you tell me if Drift res. is still a fishery I used to like to fish it many years ago and will be down in the Penzance area for a few days earl next spring and would love to give it a go. Can't remember the balifs name but he used to be a minor counties cricket umpire and a nice chap to boot, happy days.

Yes Drift is still going and early in the year they have a float tube comp.

That would be a real shame if Siblyback lost it's status as a fishery. I spent 8 months on a contract, i think 1995, from April to November, near this reservpoir and fished it often. It was a great fishery and I caught some lovely rainbows there from the bank.
It would be interesting to know what the conflict is ? When i fished there years ago there was always small sailing dinghies around. They were limited to where they could sail if I remeber correctly so i imagine it's probably other watersports wanting to have any restrictions as to where to go lifted. Then again, it could be that there is just not enough anglers there to justiify the reservoir be stocked and therefore just a matter of economics. Do you know what the conflict is ??

There seems to be a lot more wind surfers and canoeists there now and to be honest the fishing more than likely doesn't make much money.
Will be interesting to see what they say at the meeting.
I think they were hoping to keep it quiet.

SW Lakes Trust don't appear to have any regard for angling at all. My annual trips to Devon/Cornwall used to involve fishing Roadford, Colliford and Siblyback. SWLT have already destroyed the fishing at Roadford and are now ruining Siblyback.

I'd suggest the local anglers approach the Anglers Trust to see if they can help at all.

I think it's the sort of thing that the Angling Trust was made for:

" For the first time ever, there is a single body to take cohesive action to solve all the problems that affect our sport" - AT website.

Unfortunately there is still not enough support for the AT but I believe they do a good job.
