I am looking for advice on a decent reel for a fly rod I just completed building. I have been building spinning and casting rods for just over a year now. I live in some great fly fishing country (Gunnison Colorado) and decided to start building fly rods. I just completed my third rod and when I took it into one of the local fly shops, I was told I needed to start fly fishing if I was going to continue to build fly rods. I fly fished years ago but have been out of touch with all the new technology. I am keeping this rod but would like some advice as to a decent but not insanely expensive reel to complement this rod. The rod I built is a 9 foot St Croix four piece SCV blank. The blank is rated for 6 wt line and has a moderate action. I will keep this rod for many years. I have looked at numerous reels but am not sure what would be a good fit for this blank. Any ideas would be appreciated.

USA Ross would be synonymous with GunnisonThey are also excellent no frills fly reels which go the distance.You might be able to pick up a Rhythm which superceded the bulletproof Gunnison and has now been discontinued for a "new" model.I have a couple of Ross Rhythm reels including a #3 which is ideal for 6wt.

I would highly recommend these. I have two myself and they are fine pieces of kit which would cost much much more should they have a major maunfacturers logo on the side.
