It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, and Colin is great fun. Will definitely repeat next season

but I'm really not sure why he thinks I am a bigger tackle tart than him

!
Diarmid, I sold Colin the IIIx because I really couldn't identify a big difference between the two. I
think the IIIx is a marginally better casting tool, however now that I have got to know the IIx I have no problem putting out the whole line when needed and I no longer suffer the tailing loops I had when I first got the rod. Effectively I have learned how to handle her (are rods female?) and definitely learned not to 'over do it' on the forward haul, the IIx hates to be bullied. I'm sure Colin will agree as we spent an hour or so playing with different rods on the grass. The IIIx does feel as though it has a slightly smoother transfer of power. Personally I marginally prefer playing fish on the IIx, and got Colin to play one I'd hooked so that he could compare the two, not certain he found a discernible difference, but then his fish were bigger than mine

!
I am so pleased with the IIx that I have now bought a brand new identical 'spare' in case anything happened to mine. I am sincerely hoping that it has identical characteristics to my current rod, because I am not suffering the issues that I have read about in some of the reviews such as the rod 'folding' when carrying a lot of line. so hope mine isn't a 'one off'!.
