Hi Brifly,
I have nothing whatsoever against instructors (I'm one myself

), I'm sure most of them do a good job and lots of people will benefit from their input, but...
I taught myself fishing, casting, tying. It is a very rewarding pastime, provided you persevere and put your priorities right. It's astounding what you can teach yourself once you've taken the decision. What's more, it's very good for your self-confidence and it will reflect on your fishing

.
Start by (hookless!!) precision casting in your garden (or in a field) to anything you might find (a plate, a matchbox, a flower, a leaf on a tree or the cat sleeping under the foliage

), take this skill to your river or lake and enjoy. Again, instructors are needed (but not for all, or straight away) and if you do want one, do as Acid House suggested : go for the nutty ones, they are the best

!!
Tight lines,
Johan
