Default Bat attacking "trout" in the River Devon?

Hi folks

I've been spending a bit of time at the Tate's Tomb area of the River Devon in Clackmannanshire of late and noticed one - presumably large fish (I assume a big brownie, but maybe a sea trout), literally going for bats when their wings skim the surface of the water at dusk.

As far as I know there are no pike in the river (although im told this has happened on occasion in the past), so I wondered if other anglers have observed this behaviour in large trout?

I'd like to to try catching it (season closes on 6th October on the Devon so i'll need to be quick) as it must be a biggie if it's doing this. Perhaps it's just the sudden water disturbance that sparks a predatory reaction, but either way I wonder what the fish would think if it actually succeeded in catching one of these bats?

I thought bats were attacking trout for a moment there.

Oddly enough Birdsnest that's exactly what I said on my Facebook page - after all you CAN get those comedy rubber bats...

Marazion Midge - I guess if it's a biggie it may well be!

Alex - really? I take it these were fairly big brownies! Im guessing this fish may get more than it bargains for if it actually catches said bat!

As to hooking bats themselves - this is almost certainly going to happen to me at some point I reckon - it's quite unnerving when you spot them going for your fly (said the Bishop to the actress ) - though the savage perching of the one hooked by your mate was a little unfortunate (not to mention alarming - keep your fingers out!). Are you sure this didnt happen on the Amazon???

Ah, yes, I probably should have worded the title better

Welcome to Alaska Alex; Mouse patterns are a fav for large resident trout. (Music is annoying, but the 'action' is good. Note how the fellow wiggles his rod to add action to the fly.)
