Algae
Fished from the bank at Bewl (Bramble Point) yesterday.
With the light breeze blowing onto the shore, there was a sheen of algae on the surface (and shoals of fry close in).
Wading out deeper beyond the sheen, there was a lot of green algae globules in the water column, thick with it at times.
I'm wondering whether the trout normally steer clear of these conditions, or maybe even come in searching for insect life feeding on the algae?
(I was told at the lodge that the bank fishing had not been good lately)
Early on, when still a flat calm, boats seemed to be doing well, and trout rose within wading casting range.
I had one rise to a hopper, but a change to small buzzers hooked a small trout which, when spooned, was full of tiny black buzzers and what looked like very small black beetles and perhaps midges.
A second fish was released, but then the wind sprung up and the rises and interest in my flies died.
