Default Glen of Rothes Fishery near Elgin

Anyone fish this regular that can give me a few pointers on best spots, fly choice etc. I am working in that area over the next couple of days and will have a rod in the boot, hoping to get a couple of hours fishing in the late afternoon/evening.

Thanks in advance.
Diarmid.

i fish there a fair bit, best flies to use are cruchers, diawls, comorants and also lures. cats whiskers, wsw and dancers.
i was talking to kevin on sunday and he said the dry fly sport was good the now. the place is full of fish so anywhere you have a cast you'll get fish.
hope this helps

Hi Stevie,
Thanks for the advice, i won't have any lures with me, only dries, buzzers, nymphs etc. I prefer fishing with a floating line and small flies, so sounds like i should be ok

Cheers Diarmid.

Fished it on Thursday late afternoon for a couple of hours, got 2 fish on cdc shuttlecock buzzers. Nice fishery but not the most welcoming. Let's just say I won't be rushing back.
Cheers Diarmid.

Hi Stevie,
Kevin wasn't there it was only Davie. When i arrived at 3.30pm i asked for a c&r ticket and was told that they were just closing for the day. There was 2 old boys on who only had 30 mins to go and that was it . I said there is a sign that says 7.00pm closing and was told that if there were more fishing it would stay open. Davie had toothache and was not in the mood for customers, but he eventually said.."well i suppose i will have to let you on, that means i now have to cancel my dentists appointment". Not my problem.
When i stated that i had not fished there before and asked about hotspots, depths, fly choices etc i got virtually no response. I eventually spoke to one of the guy's fishing and got the info i wanted.
As i said before it's a lovely place with plenty of fish, and also found their flies on sale were great quality and very reasonably priced. Can't fault the place, but i am used to friendly service at the places i normally fish. Maybe i just picked a bad day to fish.

cheers Diarmid.

You should have offered to relieve him of said tooth Diarmid:.Hate going to a fishery and getting one of those unfriendly welcomes when they make it sound like there doing you a favour

Hi Diarmid

Davie is probably the last person on earth that I would guess would have given you a welcome like that ... He must have been feeling really ill

Best wishes
Mike

Hi Diarmid

I was really surprised to read this as anyone who knows us,will know, that we try and offer a warm welcome to anyone who fishes the Glen. You are correct that we close at 7pm at the moment, due to dusk being alot earlier.I can only say that this was unusual and due to the circumstances.

I know that Davie has been trying to get a dentists appointment as his tooth has a huge abcess and needs to come out.The only time to get it done was that day and he was in alot of pain.
That aside,I can only offer our apologies and if you would put this experience aside as a one off, please come along and have a fish for free on us,as It is not our normal welcome to anyone who visits and more down to circumstances on that day.
I know myself toothache is not something which makes you feel good. But no excuse, you were quite right to fish and I hope you will take us up on our offer.

This must have been early part of the year, when most were struggling to get fish of any size. But if you have fished it once and it wasn't for you, then that is your choice and its always good for us to get any feedback to help us improve things.
