Default Venue in Sussex/Surrey/Kent

Thinking about taking a mate to a small water in Sussex/Surrey/Kent on Saturday. He's not the best caster and I'd like him to get a couple of fish without sounding like he needs to cast into a stock-pond.

I was thinking Duncton Mill, or maybe one of The Albury lakes, or would anyone else have a recommendation thats fishing well right now.

Much appreciated.

Albury is very expensive in my humble opinion and no C&R is allowed but maybe that is not an issue for el-chum?

Frensham is a beautiful fishery and you dont need to cast far there at all as a good cast will get to the other side but well stocked and, as I said, what a lovely fishery!

Money's not really a problem only because its a one off to get him into it. I wouldn't want to be knocking out £40-£50 on a regular basis though!

Frensham, wow, I'd forgotten all about that place. Thankyou for that. I used to fish there years and years ago, really pretty little place and cracking fully finned trout. I'll definitely look into there.

Another vote for frensham from me. It's a lovely place, might get a bit busy on a Saturday though. I know the albury lake in Guildford is in a lovely spot but I've never fished it as I resent how much it costs. I'd say you were more likely to catch at albury just put a blue flash damsel on and you'll be in no worries.

Thanks Charlie. I'm seriously thinking about Frensham. The other one that was quite pretty and some good fishing was Duncton Mill.

Anyone been there recently?

Not fished DM, but i've heard that it's probably not the best for a beginner. i've heard the fish are fairly sparse and not easy. lovely spot though.

Have a look at Chalk Springs. the water there is utterly clear andd your friend will be able to see the fish to target. it's not that easy, but the casting is no problem and there are some lovely big fish to frustrate the hell out of your mate.

Chalk Springs could be a good shout too. I see you're in London, ever tried Syon Park BB?

On a side note, what about Bewl from a boat? Hows that ticking over recently?

Not sure how far you want to travel, but Coltsford Mill in Oxted, Surrey Coltsford Mill Fishery is a seriously good place to take a beginner. Always bag up here, not stew pond-esque on the main lake or the smaller lake and a real chance at some good sized fish. The two side streams do make for easy fishing admittedly, but great for a beginner.

I fished it a few times earlier in the year and had great fun. Fish were in good condition too, they are all grown on on site.

I took my friend to Vale End part of Albury on Saturday thinking that was maybe the best chance to get him a bit of sport. Unfortunately the heatwave continued and the water what quite alga/weed covered. Pretty difficult day all round and unfortunately my pal didn't get a pull. I had four on a small damsel.

Hi DHU. sorry to hear your friend didn't trouble the scoring this weekend, mind you, in this heat its mad dogs and Englishmen

I have fished Syon Park, but to be honest, like the rest of the Albury waters i don;t like it too much. the water's ususally coudy and the size and quality of the fish isnt great. for the same price there are far better fisheries, imo.
