Default Anyone fished Siblyback lately?

I’m planning on fishing Siblyback lake near Bodmin on the weekend. I’ve been looking for recent catch reports on the SW Lakes Trust website, but haven’t been able to find anything.

If anyone one has fished it recently or has any tips about hotspots and methods, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, is it worth fishing from the bank, or should we try and get a boat?

Many thanks,

Dave

I fished it with a mate on the 15/16th September. Water level is pretty low but we caught fish on both days at the Southern end. Nice quality fish. The visit was spoilt a little for me though, on both days, by a ski-boat towing an 'inflatable sofa' with screaming kids plus the usual canoes/sailboards/sailing dinghys.
South West Lakes Trust seem to be opening up Siblyback to more leisure activities and I don't think they all sit well with fishing on a small reservoir such as this.

Thanks for heads up. It would be better if they limited motorised craft to one area. Sail boats I can mostly live with. Any tips on flies? I've heard 'small and black' is usually the way to go...

Fished it on sunday night from 5 till dusk and had 5 rainbows and 1 brown
I fished just right of where the boats are moored and the fishing was good.
As said the water level is very low as is Colliford.
Flies
4 on blob
1 on tadpole
1 on hopper snatcher
Lots of rises and missed takes to
If you want some company give me a shout
Mike

fished it once a few weeks ago (July) on one of the rare sunny days.....It was hot and blowing a hoolie so walked to the top end out on to a sort of pennisular thing that was on the back of the wind the water was very shallow there but had 1 brownie on a small black hopper fished on the top and missed countless takes mosty cos I wasnt exactly sure where my fly was due to loosing sight of it in the wind waves etc but the brownies were patrolling the wind line .....

Lots and lots of dogs and SCREAMING????..lots of boats with kids SCREAMING!!!....kids walking the footpath with many dogs taking a swim!!!!.....

I fished all round the lake here and there and struggled to be honest with the wind as it was gusting alot into most banks?? and made controlling the flies difficult.......

Stayed late out of stubbourness and once the wind, screaming boats.canoes, dogs, kids had got bored then I managed a rainbow and another nice brownie at the bottom end......

Nice lake but for me far too public and I cant blame sw lakes for trying to make money but an adventure sport center, walking path with dogs running free and a trout water is for me not the best mix.....I am sure that early morning or very late is the pobably the most productive times once things quieten down...or maybe I am just rubbish at fishing....

Anyway good luck....my fish all came to small black hoppers......it seems maybe I would have done better if I had tried blobs etc but didnt remeber to pack them......

If you want to fish Siblyback do it this year as It will probably be downgraded next year. All of the issues mentioned above have resulted in anglers voting with their feet. It is likely to be downgraded from a premier water and we wait to see what the stocking policy will then be.

Sad to here that Bill, as we have very little now down this end of the country.
Stithians is a shadow of what it used to be, and Colliford will be interesting to see if it gets a stocking next year as it did this, but even there the fish could well suffer size issues as the water level is dire and must/will affect the amount of food available to them.
Sad times.

Yep it is a real shame, sad too, Cornwall is such a beatifull part of the world......We are definitly lacking a quality rainbow stocked ressie and there is plenty of water too, Tamar upper and lower, Roadford, Argyl, Crowdy etc but some are coarse venues and some just left fallow, there is a big ressie near rough tor too but is out of bound and would be a stunning place to fish.......Siblyback is lovely water but when I was there I was the only angler fishing and one bloke came down near dusk and told me of the goings on and how few fish had been stocked and that SW lakes were not that botherd about the fishing???....well for £20 they should put a few fish in......If Anglian water can do it with Rutland etc then why cant SW lakes manage it????.....

Luckily Colliford has been my saviour this year and is one of my favorit places to spend time, in fact it is one of my favorite places anywhere. I could have bought a season ticket twice with the amount I have spent on day tickets and I have only taken 2 for the pot so I hope they keep it stocked for next year and put few fish in as it is my brownie sancturary and a stunning moorland water.......

It does seem as Sw Lakes are more interested in water sports and dog walking, cafe's and playgrounds........Its is a real shame as there is so much beautifull water in cornwall, what can be done about it.........
