Default Atom Six Tachyon 9ft 6wt Review

Well I had the first cast of the Atomsix rod today, I paired it up with a Silver Abel big game reel and a Rio gold 6wt line.
With the silver trim on the rod and the Abel it looked the dogs *******s!
I was going to take some pics but I had forgotten my camera.

My first impression when casting the rod was that it was pretty stiff but once I got in to the swing of things I really liked it and when I say really liked it I mean it.
This is a lovely rod to fish with and I enjoyed every minute of it, infact it was hard to put it down.
I was only fishing for about an hour and I never caught a fish which is probably because I was having so much fun just flicking the line in and out that I did not do any fishing.

I never had a chance to try it with a 7wt line but it suited the Rio Gold so well I did not feel the need to change up a weight.
I think I need to write to Santa and hope he is kind to me this Christmas.

I had a great opportunity today, I had the Italian technical director for Diawa and the chief Engineer from Diawa up fishing at Tinto today.
The chief engineer is Japanese and he is the guy who designs all the rods produced in Scotland, his English is not great but I explained to him about the Atom six new rods etc and he was very interested.
He had a cast of the rod and he also really liked it, he liked the flex that the rod had in the tip and he was casting a lovely line with it.
I was hoping for some constructive criticism from him but with the poor English spoken and my **** poor Japanese I did not get much info from him apart from the usual nodding and smiling say very nice rod, very nice rod, very nice rod.
The Italian also had a cast of the rod and he liked it but he was more impressed with the finish on the rod.

To sum up, I am very impressed with the action of the rod, it suits my poor casting style very well and it would be my go to rod if I was lucky enough to have one.
I wonder if Atom six take Sage rods as trade ins?

I am not ready to send it back just yet, got some more testing to do

My 6wt Rio Grand line died but I had a 7wt Barrio mallard that never felt like it loaded my 7wts enough, it alway felt somewhere in between line weights. I put that on my Dan craft ft 6wt Atomsix to try yesterday. It worked a treat.

The finish of Steve's rods is amazing. I am waiting to try a 9ft 5wt Neutrino and have held off the Sintrix's, One's, Boron IIIX, Fario's until I have tried it.

I recently had a 10 foot Tachyon #7 on test and was mightily impressed.
Yes it's a fast action rod but the overall feeling of smoothness is amazing and makes it a very comfortable rod to fish with all day.
It coped with a wide range of lines from floaters through to Di5 without fuss and subdued fish very efficiently.
This finish is superb and of course you can bespoke your own colour schemes, fittings etc.
My only regret was having to send it back before the Lexus teams at Rutland.
I normally use a Loomis GLX-D and a Greys G-Tec but I am saving hard now to get one soonest.
I owuld urge anyone looking for a fast action all rounder, especially for comps, to have a serious look at the vlaue for money that the Tachyon offers.

With over 35 years of fishing, much of it sponsored, I have tried almost every rod type. I have owned hundreds of the b....y things (hence I am broke) and now I only use rods made by Steve Parkes.
If you want something unique with a quality build,a blank made here in the UK, at affordable prices then get an AtomSix.

No doubt great rods and one I'll try and have a cast with when wanting another new 'toy'. If you have a 10' Marryat in a 3 or a 4 sitting doing nothing I'd be interested in one Phil. Thanks, Tim

Sorry Tim, I got rid of all of my rods earlier this year. I am trying a 10' 3 wt prototype for Steve right at the moment. Fast action, great tip feel and perfect for spiders and czech nymphing. This is a rod I have designed with him for these specific purposes, especially the former.

He has a spare blank at the moment but it will still be a pro to rod as the new blanks will be ready for next season.

Call him, he might have something.

I couldnt agree more I have the Dan Crafts in 9ft 5wt and 9ft 7wt and they are a joy to use.

I wouldn't consider going elsewhere for a rod after using them

Maybe we should not say to much on the forum.
Steve will be putting his prices up and when i order mine i will need to wait months for it because he will be so busy.

Hi All, It's the 10ft #7 that's a real eye opener. Super sharp recovery.

That's the next rod for me.

Best regards

Stuart

I also like Steve's work, having owned the Dan Craft FT in 5 and 6wt's. Great casting tools and very light too. My only criticism is that i found them a bit too stiff from the butt to the 3rd section after all day use. (I am not a big fan of the TCR/TCX/MX type rods either) The finish on them was superb and if he has something more medium fast to suit my old age then i would try it for sure.
He is also a pleasure to deal with and his customer service is second to none.

Cheers Diarmid.
