Default The best fisherman on the water

Was out on my local river yesterday for a few hours and had a good day (for me) two nice brownies and a few smaller ones (all returned) so thought I have another go today as I had a couple of hours to spare.
Got to the water same tactics as yesterday and could not buy a fish. After about an hour a heron appeared no more than 20 foot up stream of me and stood watching, as I had the first take of the day and missed it I am sure said heron looked at me as he put his beak into the water with great ease and plucked out a little brownie of about 6 inches winked and flew away.
Think we have a lot to lern. LOL

When I was out in a boat on the Missouri River last June a friend caught a walleye and as it was undersized returned it to the water. The fish being exhausted after the fight rested on the surface for a few minutes-it's fatal mistake as a large golden eagle who had been sat in a barren pine overlooking the river swooped down and neatly scooped it up in its talons. Awesome spectacle and just wished I'd been able to catch it on film. What an amazing thing to happen!

Sure it was a Golden Eagle?

Maybe it was an immature Bald Eagle, I've never known a Golden Eagle to catch fish (in the UK anyway).

Incidentally I noticed a Little Egret fly off from my local chalk stream when I turned up to fish last week. We're seeing more and more of them these days.

As you may have guessed the Missouri River is in South Dakota USA and it most Definitely was a pretty good -sized Golden Eagle witnessed by myself and two old friends. Our eyes may be getting old but we certainly can differentiate between types of eagles.

Well they can look very similar. And I can't find any evidence of a Golden Eagle ever fishing but I'll take your word for it.

That will be cos you are a Brit and we associate the Golden Eagle as a meat eater/carrion feeder.
In uncle sams land, and borderlands, they are far more omnivorous.
check out this article, in particular their diet.
