There's plenty on here about the Sumo rods and others by tacklediscounts (some love 'em some don't). If you're on a budget consider the Shakespeare odyssey or Fladen Vantage range of rods. As far as lines go the floating line will stay on the surface (only your leader attached to the fly line will sink) and with a sinking line the whole lot will go subsurface. People with a lot more experience than me will give you advice but I would think that for Pike you may be better off with a heavier class of rod a 7/8 weight or possibly even heavier. This might make it too heavy to make the Trout fishing enjoyable so it night be an idea getting one rod for the Trout (5/6wt) and an 8 or 9 weight for the Pike. Decide which species you'll be fishing for most and buy the secondary rod 2nd hand from Ebay (lots of older rods for sale there at very reasonable prices).

hello and welcome to the forum.
you will get lots of advice from the guys on here are you still water trout fishing or river fishing.
if your going to fly fish for pike you will need a bigger rod than the one you will use for trout.

Aaron

Welcome to the Forum. It is really good to see a young person on here - we hope to see much of you in the future.

Post a new message in the same folder as this thread about needing help in Northern Ireland.

This will allow people in your area to perhaps even take you fishing and show you how to fly fish.

It is highly reccomended to find a reputable casting instructor to teach you how to cast and set up your gear.

If you have any more questions, then just ask.

Hello Aaron and welcome

Give these a look when you have time.
First setup - Most of us know how, but this article is for the ones who never set up a complete reel, backing, line and leader. - Global FlyFisher
and a few videos that might help explain things.
