Default Where to fish Yorks/Cumbria/Lancs

Hi all, I'm planning on having a full day out on the 9th Oct but want to try somewhere different.

Looking for small stillwater suggestions similar to Kilnsey Farm (well managed, well stocked) which is where I normally go.

Live in Leeds but don't mind travelling an hour or two. Can anyone recommend a nice place?

Many thanks, Rob

Helwith Bridge (near Settle) or Raygill (near Skipton)

Thanks TT, I'll have a look at Helwith Bridge - been to Raygill in the past.

If you're after "nice" as in attractive as well as a decent fishery and are prepared to travel to the lakes
Ghyll Head and
High Newton

are attractive as is

Bigland, although I don't know how it's fished this year.

Watendlath is very attractive, although I've never fished it and is probably too far.

If small as Kilnsey but well managed, Bank House at Caton, Nr Lancaster is small, well landscaped and also has some big fish in as Kilnsey. It's run by the tenant at Stocks. Well managed, good facilities and clean fish.
If you go there, because it's small, it might be worth phoning up before to make sure it isn't booked up (usually there is loads of room and it's not shoulder to shoulder)

I like Barnsfold, near Preston.

Both Barnsfold and High Newton can get very windy, so if high winds are forecast, I'd give them a miss.

Tight lines, Robbie.

Hi Mate

If you like oversized, monster pellet fed fish, where the locals float fish Lures and egg flies, Pennine Fisheries might be your bag. Not my scene but well run and tidy. Can get busy with people fishing within a few feet of you. Prices are not too bad and it can only be 3/4 hour from Leeds.

What about Bank house near Lancaster?

Beardy

Cheers Bill and Beardy, plenty of options there for me to have a look at!

Robbiejam, I've seen Kilnsey on' tinterweb but the "family day out" references have put me off (I don't know about you but I go fishing to get away from families!). It looks gorgeous, are there nice peaceful spots around the lake or is it a bit like Briggate?
I don't know what side of Leeds you live but Billing View is a nice hidden away spot in Rawdon. Nice fish last time I went and cheap too. The only draw back is it OS a one man operation and if he is not around you can't access the fishery. I would phone first if your interested.

Hi Rob, yeah Billings is 10 mins up the road from me so I go there now and again. The fishing can be hard though and recently there has been a lot of weed in the lake although I do know they're trying to clear it. Lots of trees and bushes around too and most of them owe me a fly or 2!

Kilnsey is great but just gets too busy for me, if you don't get there super early you generally struggle to get a decent spot. Really well run place though.

Rob.

Kilnsey is the best fishing hewerhouse in the north. It's small, packed withfish, has big uns, blue uns, some as big as yer ed and all swimming round your feet.
It's fishermen only round the ponds. The visitor centre and kids bit are away from the water. Not cheap but you will catch on just about anything all day long. The fish are mostly in top nick and the water is as clean and fresh as you'll get. I dont often fish still waters on mi tod but make an exception when I'm round Skipton.
Doubles abound. Even I caught one.

Pay attention at the back AH, Robbie knows all about Kilnsey Park, he's looking for somewhere different.
