Thumbs down weed & more weed.

Fished Blencarn yesterday. Beautiful setting, but the weed was murder. Managed to catch 1 fish. Such a waste of a beautiful location, the hatchery is sitting empty. The locals we chatted to siad most of the fisheries around the area are all the same. Looks like we are spoiled up in Scotland.

Don't quote me on this, but ive heard that there are new rules in place as to how weed can be controlled. i think mechanical weed removal is necessary, which is more time consuming and less effective than the old methods...

Like i say, i don't know for sure, but it's what i've heard...

Hi Colin, sorry it was like that, haven't been for years, sometimes it does get weedy others it's fine, we have so few stillwater fisheries in Cumbria, well in the Penrith area anyway, I never bother with them.
I don't think they have bothered with the hatchery now for some time, as many of the fish in there were stolen, so they just buy in now apparently.
It's mainly river fishing in this area, not stillwaters, unless you count the lakes, but you would pick to come here when it's wet, it normally never rains in the lakes.
By the way, the Eden was high the morning after you rang me, did you check as suggested?

Hi Steven. Went into Norris's & were chatting with the guys in the shop & they said the river was up. Thats why we decided to Blencarn. As i said a lovely fishery, beautiful surroundings. Going to try the Eden in the morning.

It may well be up Colin after todays rain, might be more chance on the Lyvennet, on the Go wild scheme, Norris's lads will keep you right.
Good luck.

Its a great shame Blencarn is a loverly fishery I have fished it loads of times when caravaning in the Penrith area. The hatchery was working then and it was in different ownership.
