Default where do you stand re fishing unknown rivers etc ?

Driving around i see some fishy looking spots now and then , For instance whilst driving through wales a few month back up near Bala i saw some nice streams etc.. Where do i stand re fishing some out the way stream or river i may come across?

if there were somewhere obvious to enquire then obviously i would but what if there's no one around or i'm in the middle of nowhere ?

would i get my bollox cut off or just asked for some money for a ticket if it was a ticket stretch of water ..or would i be picking shot out my rear end

Probably all of the above, but it will be worth it...... It's easier to apologise than to ask permission.....

Hi,

you should always put the effort into finding who owns the fishing rights for any water you might like to fish. to be honest between local tackle shops or even people on the bank and of course resources like this forum, it is normally a quick process to find out the who's who regarding fishing rights.

if you do chance it and get questioned on teh bank you might be mucking up your chances of associated waters etc.

If someone fished your local water without permission you'd call them a poacher and worse!
If you realy want to be able to fish almost any waterway you can access you need to do what I did, move to NZ!
All the best.

i can live with poacher or worse ...

i'm not talking intentionally fishing a stream i know needs permission but more an unknown stream i may just encounter in the sticks on my journeys..

Each to their own Billy and call me an old fart, but I don't think it acceptable to fish without prior permission of whoever holds the riparian rights. That's especially the case in an area like Bala where affordable day tickets are available for some good river fishing.

Find the farmer, they are never far away, just look like you are bothering his sheep or trampling crops you won't have to wait more than 5 mins and he'll be hoofing it towards you.
Failing that, tackle shop, post office and local grocers seem to be the best source of info and if they don't know they will know someone who does.

All joking apart, you could really be looking at picking shot out of you 'arris, or a hefty fine for fishing private water. what harm is there in enquiring with the local farmer or house near the water.? you might make a friend, and you'd at least be fishing without looking over your shoulder all day..

yea don't get me wrong , this is what i'm asking .. I don't want to fish looking over my shoulder .. This particular stream i saw a few months back was literally in the middle of nowhere , and i mean nowhere. i drove for at least 20 miles without seeing anything but rolling fields and vallies. I have never drove anywhere before so "out of the way" i was driving A/B roads from manchester to new quay ...

on another serious note farmer or not point a gun my way it would end up wrapped round his head.. end of .. land owner or not..

so in the above example where honestly no one was seen , no buildings, no little villages/ petrol stations , nothing for miles upon miles what would you do ? just leave it alone ....

this is different from me just having to do a little bit of looking to find someone which obviously i wouldn't mind .. ** i am strictly talking middle of nowhere jobs with no apparent reasonable means of asking someone **..

obviously a farmer stood in a field or somewhere nearby and job done
