Default fished the mersey today

half dozen trout albeit small and about the same in dace.. all to #16 blk midge . water looks very clean ..

Wow, the last time I set eyes on the Mersey it was a lovely poo-brown colour with floaty bits! Mind you that was 30 years ago, glad to hear things have improved.

same here.. i have been very suprised at the clarity of the water at different venues . someone somewhere is doing something right i guess

the guy about 50-60 yards up from me was cussing as he was getting fed up of dragging dace out on a feeder..

the mersey does well with whiting ,cod and the odd ray etc in the winter . fished it a few times .. Blackpool is the same off the pier , **** and foam everywhere but big cod to be had..

Mersey and fishing are two words I would have never put in the same sentence!

Funnily enough we where talking of the Mersey at thye weekend, apparently SALMON have been seen trying to get up the weirs in Warrington, mind you at this end it still looks a bit suspect!!

Amazing I didn't realized Salmon got up the Mersey to spawn. When I was a lad it was heavily poluted.

When you was a lad half of it was a glassier.

It's a shame there are no fish passes at the ship canal. This would open up spawning grounds on the Irwell.
