Default Flextech rods

Just wondering if anyone has used these rods before as I am thinking of picking up a #5 or 6 weight rod about 9th 6. Any comments on this maker are much appreciated.

Owned one very briefly, if you do get one i'm sure you'll enjoy getting rid of it, as much as i did.

In other words, i don't rate it

Best regards
Jim

Hi Andy, Flextec I believe had some initial problems with the top sections on some of their models breaking for no apparent reason, however they seem to have sorted it out now and by all accounts now seem to be a descent rod for very small money. Im sure if you have a search on here you will find a couple or reviews. However, that said you get what you pay for!!

I think you are all being terribly unkind! The value of these rods is exceptional and the one I tried managed a whole month before the cork split and the handle fell off... But the lass at tacklediscounts sent a replacement straight away...

I have a 10ft 5/6 weight. Not used it myself as bought for a backup rod in case of accidents. 2 total novices have used it. Took a lot of stick obviously but still in one piece with no bits missing. I think it depends on the rod you get. I got lucky. For the money, a good rod. There's worse at twice the price.

Andy, I started fly fishing in July there and bought a CDX 66 9ft 5/6wt. It looks a great wee rod, well made. Recently upgraded by buying a couple of rods from the guys on here and all I can say is, it's like day and night.
First thing I noticed was the weight difference, both feel lighter even with the reel on against the Flextec. My casting isn't the best but boy did it improve, didn't feel like I was fighting with the rod anymore, can land the line straight, tighter loops and presentation is so much better (thanks Chris for the mrtrout furled leader)
So yes, like Mike says, you get what you pay for. If you can, keep an eye on the classifieds here.

I bought the Flextec Powertec 10' 7 weight more so out of curiosity. I really didnt expect much of anything but I like the rod. In fact I was using it tonight casting streamers for largemouth bass. Got it on Ebay pretty cheap! There is a spot on the finish where it looks like whatever they cote it with ran a little.
I have been surprised by several cheap rods I have purchased. Bass Pro Shops White River rods are El Cheapo and I have several that I have fun using .
Of Course I have higher end rods also.

I have been collecting the cheaper fly rods for when my grandchildren decide they are ready to try it !

If you are on a budget look no further than the Shakespeare Odyssey you will not be dissapointed .
Great value and won't fall to bits after a few chucks Fantastic value for money . I got one from Gromitt a while back and keep it in my boot of my car .

I couldnt agree more with the above statement... the odyssey rods offer arguably the best bang for buck on the market, plus shakespeare are a well established brand, there customer service is excellent.. you have the added benefit of being able to walk ito a tackle shop and give one a bit of a wiggle... cant ddo that with a flextec

i have had the displeasure of casting several flextec rods, all felt cheap and nasty, i didnt think much of the action of them either but some folks might like fishing with spaghetti...

I guess I should have been more specific Andy. If you are going to use the Flextec as your primary rod the answer is no. I would not recommend it !
