Default Lurkers

When I look at the number of members of this forum it saddens me to see the high number who DO NOT POST! I know some are shy, but for goodness sake how can we get to know you if you don't post? After all if you only joined to gain lots of valuable information then fine, but you didn't really need to register to get that. I love this forum and most of the guys on it, but it only works because members POST!! Come on you LURKERS-let's hear from you guys!

I have to agree with you flytier.

Even just to introduce yourselves to everyone would be good.

There must some questions you may be dying to ask and plenty of members are only happy to help,so come on ask away, everyone has to start somewhere.

So come on speak to everyone and join the club.

While i agree up to a point.
how many times do we see newbies asking for advice,
only to be told to use the search facility ?
This must cause some people hesitation to ask.
Also as newcomers, often with a lack of knowledge it is sometimes
difficult to join in discussion.
Sometimes its easier to keep one's mouth shut, and just listen . Paul.

Byron,

You will probably find most of the zero post members are 'bots' / fictitious members used to bulk up the numbers, and make the forum seem livelier than it actually is.

This can be either to increase it's commercial value to potential advertisers, buyers, etc, and also to encourage new members when the board was started.

In the members list click the no of posts tab to sort members by post, and then sort ascending with the little arrow.

Have a look at some of profiles of the zero post members, and note when they joined....

Another board I frequent boasts of 10,000 members. Yet when you look into it, nearly 4000 of these joined in the first month the board came online, and have never posted, or visited again since they joined.

"..you didn't really need to register to get that."

You did actually; try trying to use the Forum search functions if you haven't logged on for example.

Also 'Viewpoint', once the most popular Forum section, is currently closed to non members.

Default Re: Lurkers

Being a trade member, am in the lucky position of dealing with and getting to know a great deal of 'lurkers'.

I've also lost count of the amount of times someone has come up to me at some stillwater or another and said they are also on the forum but don't post.

Some people just like to have a wee read, nothing wrong with that at all.

The Pirate.
