Default day on the oars

Boat booked for Sunday on kennick. Don't normally fish kennick from the boat but a mate from Birmingham phoned and said book a boat and who am i too argue lol. Problem is last time i rowed was 3 years ago and then with same said friend and location i stuffed my shoulder up and took 6 months to heal. Me thinks someone else can row this time round lol.

Beautiful 40+ acre fishery with landscape by Capability Brown. Go easy with the boat that shoulder will still be weak in comparison with the other.

Ah,the joys of the oars. I once had to row the full length of Loch Fad, not much joy when the outboard packed in. Good days exercise.

Cor blimey what a day, could of blown a dog off its chain. How the hell the weather man can get it wrong and get away with it is beyond me. The anchor wouldn't hold at all and drifting was more like speed boat racing. So we headed into clampits and found the wind was so strong it was causing a large eddy in close about 75 yards wide. We sat in the middle of it, by heck it made for a nightmare in its own right. We went round and round like being in a washing and the anchor rope was one side one minute then tuther side the next. Casting was unique, i even managed two full casts with the flies ending up back in the boat with me lol. The fish were around that was one good thing and it was a matter of finding what they wanted. My mate stuck with lures and i preferred the nymphs. We had one each then they switch on the feed for half an hour and i wangled out 6 on buzzer and a silver and red spider. My mate lost 2 on the lures and that was that. All in all a good result but a nightmare all in one

Sounds like an exciting day. 6 fish is a very satisfactory outcome given the conditions. I must try and get up there during the week. The club will be having a BBQ and evening session on the 30th. You should join us.

Gawd save us from incompetent weathermen. I've had a similar day to you up at Kennick and what myself and my fishing partner found was that the anchors supplied are too small and lightweight to hold bottom when the wind gets up. The ones I use on my local (and much smaller) water are twice the weight and stick like $h!t to a wool blanket.

Hi Bill,

Sorry mate i can't do the 30th as i got kung fu on Friday nights. I actually took 7 and my mate took one, and one bank angler i saw catching well was using a red buzzer, so i guess that's why my silver and red spider pattern worked so well.

yes you are right mate. I don't like knocking kennick as i really do love the place. But we found the anchor much too light. It didn't get down past the weed so just wouldn't dig in.
But i ain't no boat expert so maybe there was something we could of done to help that i don't know what tho
