Default Whats the most unorthodox pattern/bait/techinque you have ever caught on?

Just wondered how much we are swayed to fish by what others say is the correct way to catch a species?

Ill go 1st

7lb Springer on a Red tag
3 sewin in the same night on a blue and silver booby
Wild Brown on an allis Shrimp
11lb sewin on a peeler crab whilst bass fishing the teifi estuary
Pike whilst winding in a piece of bread paste course fishing as a kid
Wild brownies on mealworms. Again as a kid on a family holiday we couldnt find a tackleshop so bought some mealworms from a local petshop.

Went out to a tiny burn with a 1 wt rod. Opened fly box to realise had the wrong box - all size 6-8 sea sea trout doubles.

Decided to have a go anyway, more or less Czech nymphing a silver stoat (lobbing it to the head of a run and following it down with the rod, no line on the water).

It worked! Two wee brownies in 10 mins.

I have been bitten off by pike many times (and landed the odd one) while fishing for tench with fake red maggots fished static on a hair/bolt rig. Always on one particular water, I've never had it happen anywhere else.

Once, when I was a boy, I caught eels from the Butlins boating lake at Pwllheli on a crabline I happened to have in my coat pocket and some battered cod from the the cafe.
