what kind of rod is it and what do you want out of it? Through action means it generally flexes all along its length, as opposed to tip action where the majority of the flex is in the tip and the lower end of the rod remains quite 'stiff'. another ?*analagy?* is soft vs fast actioned. Id suggest you give it a try since it appears since you dont know what it means, the action might not suit you.

Actually, with a soft (through Action) Rod your back cast will be quite quick - to allow a pause before the line drops behind you, although the whole process of casting a through action rod is more relaxed; and the timing - wait - pause, whatever you like to call it; and allowing the rod to flex more, will give you that feeling of a more relaxed and precise casting action, you may have to stop the line a little sooner on the forward cast for a perfect turnover of your leader.

much nicer to use than a mid or tip actioned rod! Through Action wont suit everyone. I believe most Cane Rods are built with a through action.

As Bruce said, everthing is or has the feeling of being slowed down,it's even possible to go down a line weight on some through action rods.

I find my casting 'structure' has to be modified with through action. I use more wrist than anything else, otherwise I over do it.... After years of trying to eliminate 'wristing'

A through actioned rods forte is protecting light tippets when handling larger fish. Jon
