I have recently had a few trips to Scout Dyke, an any method trout fishery. Some of my mates, all fly-fishermen, are members and have encouraged me to try
spinning for trout.
I was reluctant at first but, after several visits, bought a spinning rod.
It's OK to try when there's a lull in the fly-fishing. I've caught quite a few now and was surprised to see how effective spinning is and how vicious the takes are but it will never compare with fly fishing.
There's also a lot of perch to be caught and a good sized fish makes good eating.
