What has been the very best or most amusing fly fishing advice you have been given or read ????

" When out with female company fish between the rises " Richard Walker circa 1970

Rub your flies in the crotch of your wife's (unwashed) knickers.

Quite literally a load of pish.

Your never to old to learn, and be willing to listen to others no matter what there age or appearance.
Not just for fly fishing but also life I suppose.

stupid one came only last week, put your flies in your worm tin the smell may rub off on them. (from my 70+ year old mum when I said fishing was tough on Lough Melvin) But then again it could work

One I recall was Hugh Falkus' demonstration of what to do when you fall in the river with chest waders and all your kit. Went for an accidental swim in Iceland on a deep fast flowing stretch and his advice had stuck in my mind....fortunately. Got B cold though!

When a novice fishing Trawsfynid, North Wales, a local told me, "just stick at it, you'll eventually catch". And I did.

"Don't expect to be a fantastic angler overnight, it's a long learning curve so try and pick up something new every time you go out. You wouldn't expect to walk on a golf course and expect to shoot a par score withing 6 months of starting to play"

From a guy I used to have golf lessons off and did a bit of fishing once or twice a year. Try and remember it every time I feel like I've had a poor days fishing so I DO focus on what I've learnt/taken away rather than concentrating on what I DIDN'T catch
