Default Best Club to Join if Leeds based.

So I'm new to fly fishing and I'm thinking about joining a club next year. However there are certain factors that I need to consider.
[*]I'm based in Farsley so getting out towards Bradford is easy but out towards Castleford less so.
[*]I have a 3yr old and so I do not have the luxury to dissapear for a whole day realistically I'm looking at 1 or 2 fishing sessions a week probably no more than 2 or 3 hours with a chance for a full day once a month.
[*]I want to mostly fly fish but have the option for coarse fishing occasionally.
[*]I prefer fishing rivers to still waters.
[*]Big fish do not interest me as much as nice areas to fish.

Which club do you think would best suit these circumstances.

I live next door to you in Bramley and have just joined Bradford City AA. The nearest fly river is probably the Wharfe at Burley but their 'premier' bit of river is the Aire at Gargrave which is well managed and stocked. I'm the same as you though I struggle with full days so a trip to Gargrave is pointless for a few hours here and there and I'm not sure what their Wharfe stretches are like. I think they have coarse waters closer by but for £32 a year it's worth it even if you manage to get to Gargrave half a dozen times a season.

Thanks Rob - nice hat you're wearing!
If others are interested, go and look at the BCAA website

+ 1

I joined BCAA a few year's ago with similar list of requirements and have been pleased with my choice.

I'm always looking for ways to combine family time with fishing. BCAA membership means I can look forward to some camping weekends at Appletreewick which is right next to their water on the Wharfe. You need some stamina to make the most of being there but I usually manage to squeeze in early morning sessions to 9ish while family asleep and then a late evening session when they're in bed. You're on the river in minutes from stealing away from the tent!

Another family camping tip is Studfold Caravan & Camping Park at Lofthouse north of Patley Bridge with nearby fishing on Scar House Reservoir and the Nidd. Fun watching the small wild trout in the beck that runs past campsite. Studfold also has a great children's nature walk that fills a morning and would be fun a 3 year old.

Both now have modern shower blocks that will keep your other half happy.

Good luck!
