Question Talyllyn Snowdonia...so far the most stunning location that I have fished. Where's yours?

I regularly fish at Kennick in Devon and have always thought that it was hard to beat as far as the scenery is concerned. Well let me say that Lake Talyllyn in Snowdonia has done it! Anyone who has fished there will know exactly what I mean. The 240 acre lake is set in a deep valley between 2 high mountains that are covered in heather, bracken and sheep.
A couple of hotels, a cottage and a farm are the only signs of human existance, and they fit in beautifully.
I'm sure I spent as much time just looking at the scenery as the dry fly I was fishing with!
I'm looking forward to going back there again.

Hi croaking frog

My bit of heaven is a private fishery I run at Barley , near Burnley Lancs. Its a 22 acre reservoir in a picturesque setting nestling at the foot of Pendle Hill. Green fields and pine woods surround the lake and it has many natural features. Its a flooded valley so the reservoir sits comfortably with its surroundings. Apart from the odd farmhouse there is nothing to spoil the views. Its a very quiet spot and very peaceful.

Hello Troutabout.
Take your waterproofs!!!
I was lucky with the weather. Dry & sunny on the Thursday...fished from the bank in the afternoon. Grey, windy and quite cold Friday...fished from a boat all day. Pouring with rain Saturday morning when we left to drive home. Had to laugh at 2 guys who were just going out wearing jeans and sweaters. Can't imagine they lasted long out there.
The fishing was hard. There is a lot of weed in the lake and the only way to fish is with dry fly & he fish were not feeding much at all. Apparently the budget for using the weed cutter has all been spent. 'cos of the hot spring & the lake being shallow the weed has grown a lot. I did enjoy it though. Got 6 of the beautiful little wild brownies to rise and caught 2 so I was a happy bunny. I don't usually fish from a boat but it was great. My husband was my "ghillie" & is now a great drogue operative! Lol
Speak to Phill the lake manager. He is brilliant. Knows the lake like the back of his hand. He will be able to update you on the flies that are working when you go.
Hope the weather is kind to you .

As you can see on my signature the scenery in eastern Washington along what was once the mighty Columbia River and the magnificent "coulees" that formed along the banks are a sight to behold-even more spectacular in spring when the snow is melting and the water turns to spray long before it reaches the ground hundreds of feet below. Hard to believe when you see the old wagon trails that were used in the mid nineteenth century by settlers how they managed to somehow lower their heavy prairie schooners up those high coulees and down again using only ropes, pulleys and horse-power, but manage they did. Once while playing a large smallmouth bass I looked up to see two whitetailed deer standing not twenty yards from the boat having a drink at the bankside who ignored my boat partner and I completely while a golden eagle soared over head. If I can never afford to go back that will always remain in my memory as a perfect day!

My favourite place is Loch Beltra in Mayo Ireland staying at the Newport House. The scenery is stunning with more than a better chance of catching salmon Loch style fishing with a single hander wt 7 floater - magic.
