Default Where to fish near Galashiels?

A group of us are staying at Galashiels on the 7/8th Oct & need advice on where to fish. Preferably somewhere pretty local as we don't want to drive far. Thanks

The Tweed flows by Gala. I was down last weekend, albeit further down at Kelso but it is stuffed with fish.

In October, for trout, you're restricted to stillwater stockies anyway.
There's a few nearby, Clerklands, Bowhill, Lindean, all near Selkirk. There's the Haas lochs near Jedburgh which are pretty good. All within 1/2 hour of Gala.
There's a few up by peebles too, Kailzie (sp) is one that springs to mind, but I've never fished up that way....
I can't think why anyone would want to go and visit Galashiels at all, never mind in October!

Tight Lines...

I thoroughly recommend Clerklands. Cracking little fishery well stocked with fish which can be seen feeding or visible nearly all day.
Not always easy and can be frustrating, you do have to work for your fish but there are some real lunkers in there.
You can never come back from there saying there was no fish in it. Dries and static flies in the surface worked for me last time but sometimes they will chase. It's all about on the day.
I usually try and get a boat but the bank fishing is pretty good.

Problem with clerklands is it closes end of september. We wanted somewhere in the borders where there is a good few pubs so gala seemed the best option. Looking at possibly travelling to loganlea

I thought Clerklands was open all year. I've fished it in January before "ice permitting"

I made a mistake so we are now booked up for Clerklands
