Question Wet & Windy Penine Farm, hints pleeeease!

Hi,

I'm going up to Penine Farm Trout fishery this weekend with a friend but its looking like its going to be a wet and windy day.

I'm still very much finding my feet and have a growing confidence using buzzers with a strike indicator but haven't really had the confidence to try anything else long enough to be successful.

Can anyone offer any hints on what they would do in such conditions?

Thanks!

I had a friend fish there sat he rang me yesterday and said he fished a tinhead egg fly 4ft down on an indicator and could of emptied the place he also fished an olive nomad and had quite a few on that
If your preference is the indicator i would put a couple of black buzzers on at 3 and 7 ft good luck for this week end

I'd recommend fishing a team of buzzers without an indicator. Long leader on a floating line. Let it drift round in the wind keeping in touch and watching/feeling for the slightest pull. Much more satisfying than fishing the bung.

In those conditions

Don’t walk on the grass
Don’t wander about the car park before booking in
Don’t walk up the banking
Don’t use barbed hooks
Don’t smile at any time
Don’t expect a warm welcome
Don’t forget to leave a £1 deposit ??????????????
Don’t think for one minute you’re going to get anywhere near the stock nets due to the peg hoggers
Don’t fish without dipping your net
Don’t expect a fish
Don’t bank on seeing anyone else landing a fish
Don’t drive above 1 mph or you’ll miss all the signs stating the above
Don’t use low profile tyres due to the ridiculous speed hump on the way out
Don’t expect not to get a lecture on the house rules

Now then have I missed anything....................

DON'T Go. Fell out with the place years ago, early 80s and have no wish to go back and have heard some BAD things, then some people like the place so best to judge for yourself. Good luck any way.

Hi chopsmcgee

If you don't already use a 10' 7# weight rod with an 7 or 8# line. The extra weight and power will help get you through the wind.

Have a bad experience there? Or do the rules get on your nerves?

Only messin...........

I have no objections to places like this, it’s just not my bag.
I have used it several times in the past, rather like a young mum uses a baby wipe to clean vomit off her hands. 'Does the trick but never feels like a good scrub'.
It’s too man made, too antiseptic, too commercial etc etc etc......... In other words as someone beautifully put it on this very forum, it’s another hewerhouse of a place. Great for instant gratification but a world away from making love.
When you get a chance and confident enough get on a good river and fall in love with real fishing. A single wild brown trout is worth a world of stocked rainbows.
The occasional bow isn’t bad either but stood round a muddy pool watching the bloke on the opposite bank watching you is a bit numbing after a while.

Usefull advice....................... Get on the dam wall bank with the wind behind you and cast towards the holding nets. The fish generally hang round there waiting for the owner to feed the stockies.

If you are looking to gain confidence in a new method - why not leave buzzers and indicators alone for the day?

Nothing wrong with pulling lures now and again. Although not a purist method, there are days when you just can't ignore the effectiveness of a lure and like it or loathe it sometimes the solid thump of a trout smashing into a lure ticks the right box!

Id suggest a small selection of tin heads in black, white and orange. Start on a floater and move to intermediates if no joy. Quite often you'll need to ring the changes to keep the fishes interest....so don't leave it too long before trying a different colour lure. Count em down, mix retrieves, fan cast the water, move pegs etc etc. Just don't stand on the same peg all day.

I realise the indicators arn't everyone's favorite, I feel I should add it will be my 5th trip where I will be hoping to catch my 3rd fish :-)

I don't feel confident with Lures because my casting is sometimes so hit and miss. I will always try for 1/2 hour or so but have never had much success and my frustrations get the better of me.

What do you mean fast cast?

Thanks

Think I will give the lures a crack this time round though, cant hurt ha ha!
