Default Flourocarbon advice needed

Hi All, Im looking for a little advice regarding flourocarbon. As i dont get out fishing nearly as much as id like to i tend to stick to the cheaper end of the market when it comes to lines, leaders etc but im starting to rethink my attitude to this. Yesterday i tried out my new floater, a Cortland classic 444 peach and was very impressed, easier to cast and straight as a dye on the water. I did notice however that my leader wasnt sinking too well even though i was using xink on it every few casts,it also seemed to coil up very easily. Now, this probably has a lot to do with my angling skills or lack of them but i was just wondering if their is a big difference between the lower end of the flouro market and the more expensive stuff. Would it be worth my while forking out a little more to get better quality

Thanks in advance for any advice

I wonder what weight fluro you were using. If it was 4lb its very difficult to get it to sink even degreased. Try using 6lb its less likely to coil up and it sinks a little better. I use Fulling Mill fluro and have very little problem with it.

Some have better charecteristics than others Regardless of cost.Just get 1 your happy with and stick with it.As BK says any light leader/tippet can be a problem to sink in calm water. But in lighter breaking strain, the fish dont seem to mind so much.

Yes, you, in general find a difference between cheaper Fluoros and the more expensive versions (although costs are always relative)

That said, Try this with your current "coiley" fluoro; Grasp it tightly between both hands and pull in slowly but firmly across yoru trousers. This will often take out any kinks and coils.

LIghter fluoro lines will tend to float but a spot of sinkant or a good tug on the fly line can help it cut trhough the surface or use a heavier fly on the point.

Heavier fluoros will tend to cut through the surface film.

Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to answer, 6lb flouro i was using but it just seemed really coily and like i say i had real problems getting it to sink. I'll try the trick with the trousers mate! Will have a look online and have a look at the more expensive ones.

Cheers guys

The list is on this thread (congrats to the Forum members that qualified): 2011 National Lochstyle Final / Grafham

SKB's new Asso fluorocarbon will have figured highly I would have thought.

Myriad wasn't this the England National? I'd figured you were Scottish... back to the drawing board.

Looks like there was nobody from the forum who qualified willing to share.

Shame when there is a post "How to get people back into competition fishing"

Could this maybe one of the things that put people off.

Just an observation.
