Default Rod joint maintenance

I was wondering if anybody could advise me as to the best substance to put on the male ferrules of my rod as they are getting a bit harder to separate when disassembling my rod?

Thanks in anticipation

Luddite

Non-perfumed candle wax (lots of bees wax in it). Same situation with 2-handers due to the 'torque' (sp?) aka rod rotation, caused when casting. Assuming a 'graff' rod of some sort here, strip up each quarter, insert upper in to lower with a slight twist ... SLIGHT is the operative word.

Good to go...... on a 2-hander many folks will also tape the joints for added "insurance." (Just electrical tape, nothing fancy. Two strips 180 degrees from each other over the joint. Then a spiral wrap over those. Done properly and there is NO WAY that connection is coming apart.

The grease out of your hair. Just rub the the rod joints in your hair and that should be sufficient. Always assuming you have hair of course.

If you don't have hair rub the male end on the side of your nose.

When I used to be a coarse match angler we used a product called Joint Save
on the male ferrules of our poles. Its a type of varnish that coats the ferrule and helps to stop wear.It also helps prevent sticking.Dont see why it cant be used on rod ferrules as well.
Steve.
It doesnt dry to a clear finish though so will discolour the ferrule a bit.

If only we could do that Eddie.
I have a problem with some rods coming apart, rather than sticking, and have always found candle wax to be the best remedy.
I was advised to use the graphite from a soft pencil, but it didn't work as well.
I carry a tea light in my waistcoat pocket now, and it helps a lot.

I use the old wax tip, just use my tying wax.

If on the water, again I use rub on nose tip, although it's the only thing male going near my nose.

I would not recommend nose or air oil. The problem is that it often contains grit and salt from perspiration. You can get away with it for a while on composite ferrules but never on the metal ferrules of bamboo rods.

Most rod companies recommend paraffin. I keep a small birthday candle in my vest for this purpose.
