Default Tippet for french nymphing

I'm hoping to try out the new Hends rod ( with the insert) tomorrow with 4.5m French Camou leader. I'm a newbie to French/Spanish nymphing.

I have used the Camou leader when testing a Vision Cult 9ft 3 wt rod but the end of the leader became tangled and i had to chop it , by about 2ft i reckon.

In general terms, how long should the tippet be after the indicator ....does it just depend on water depth?

Thanks as ever.....

Just to add, i will only be fishing one nymph.....

Default Re: Tippet for french nymphing

Hi spider,
As you state above, it would normally depend on how deep you wanted to fish. I make my own leaders up, for example when fishing a 10ft rod, the 1st 4ft would be 0.20 (10lb) then I would tie in my indicator, then 3 to 4 foot of 0.16 (7lb), and then 0.12 or 0.10, 4lb or 3lb tippet at around 2ft in length.

Hopes this helps.

Gary.
