Default Airflo glass/intermediate

Hi all

Looking to expand the line collection and would appreciate a bit of clarification on a couple of the Airflo collection if someone can help.....

1. Are the Airflo 6th sense lines being sold as slow/medium/fast intermediate effectively the same as the glass lines advertised or are they different?

2. I underdstand the principal of the sweep lines (u shape profile in the water at DI3/5/7 weights) but how does the washing line sweep model work; is it like a floating version of the U with the point fly on the surface but droppers sinking or is the point fly supposed to sink very slowly compared to the others?

Thanks in advance

Chris

I think it's Airflo responding to a modern fad. They've done it before. We used to use good old HiD lines and we used to complain that the belly sank a lot faster than the tip. Airflo came up with the density compensated lines that sank tip first. All fine so far. Then someone said that actually the U shape sink pattern of the old HiD's was actually quite a good retrieve path and so we got the Sweep line that copies that. Now the washing line is the method so what do Airflo do?

Actually their sinking lines are quite good. I have the DI3, 5 and 7 though the latter 2 don't get out that much. The DI3 is a great line for fishing up to about 5' down and I catch a lot of fish on it, especially early in the season. As far as the "Glass" lines go, I prefer the Mastery Stillwater as the Fast Glass equivalent. This line takes a lot of beating in my view.

Not really. The sixth sense lines have a braided core and are non stretch. they are very sensitive and I find that more takes are registered. Glass lines will sink at the same rate (slow glass 0.5" per second, Fast glass 1.5" per second) but these are built on a mono core so do stretch a bit and are more likely to retain memory especially in cold weather

Don't waste your money on the Airflo "floating sweep line". I did and have only used it once. I fell for all the hype but I can't really understand when I'd need to use it. It's a floating line with a sinking belly. If you're fishing the washing line method (booby on point with nymphs etc on droppers) you effectivley create 2 "U's" in your line. I can't see the benefit.

having said all that The Di3/Di5/Di7 sweep lines are excellent.

Hope that helps.

Gareth

As far as i'm aware 'glass' lines relate to any clear sinker (usually intermediate) also known as 'slime' lines and IMO, should be avoided. In my experience of these lines, they hold a memory like the worst grudge bearer and land in untidy coils on the water. the 'slime' feel to them makes them difficult to haul cast, or indeed cast at all.
